SWIMMING POOLS

KNOW that the combination of an IG and a pool without a fence around it is an accident waiting to happen.
KNOW that without strict adult supervision, and despite repeated swimming lessons and vigorous training, IGs are quite simply, prone to DROWNING. IGs are minimally buoyant dogs; they have little fat to help them float.
KNOW that, just as with children and adults, it is a short transition from startled, to panic, to DROWNING.
KNOW that there are solutions. If you plan on having an IG, installing a fence around the pool to act as a physical deterrent can help keep them out of harm’s way. In addition to fencing, temporary barriers, pool alarms, dog ramps and constant supervision can help save your dog (and people) from DROWNINGS.
KNOW that a responsible pet owner ALWAYS supervises their pet when outdoors and near pools.
